How much is a check-up?

An NHS examination is free for everyone in Scotland (a refundable £10 booking fee applies to online bookings). A private examination is £85 for new patients and £55 for existing patients - both fees include x-rays.

How much does NHS dental treatment cost?

NHS dental examinations are free for everyone in Scotland. For NHS treatment, you pay 80% of the cost, and you'll never pay more than £384 for a single course of treatment - anything beyond that is covered by the NHS. Under-26s, pregnant women and new mothers, and people on certain benefits pay nothing at all.

How much is an emergency appointment?

A private emergency appointment is £85, including any X-rays needed, a temporary filling or dressing to settle the pain, and a prescription if one is needed - and you don't need to be registered with us for a private appointment. If a tooth needs taking out and it is a simple extraction that can be done within the emergency appointment's time slot, there is no fee beyond the £85 private emergency appointment. Surgical and complicated extractions are not done in the emergency appointment: they are booked separately, with the fee confirmed first. The dentist explains the options and any cost before any treatment starts, and further treatment is quoted in writing. NHS emergency appointments are for patients registered with us (call 0131 228 2442). An NHS emergency visit ("unscheduled care") costs £17.32 on the NHS Scotland fee scale from 1 November 2025. That covers the assessment and the emergency treatment itself, such as a dressing, draining an abscess or re-cementing a crown; X-rays and any further treatment, such as an extraction, are charged on top at NHS rates. If you're under 26 or exempt from NHS charges, there's no charge: the NHS covers the fees for you.

Can I spread the cost of treatment?

Yes - 0% finance is available on private treatment from £250 up to £5,000. If approved, the finance provider pays us directly, and you repay the provider by monthly Direct Debit over a term of 6, 9, 10, 11 or 12 months. Treatment plans over £5,000 can be part-financed, with the remainder paid in full.

A single dental implant (from £1,495) includes the crown on top. A CBCT scan with implant planning (£149) is needed as well, unless you already have a suitable recent CBCT taken elsewhere that we can use. Several implants, bone grafting or a bridge on implants cost more and are quoted in writing at the end of your consultation.

The denture fee is for a partial denture. Full (complete) dentures are quoted after your assessment.

We also sell the Zima Dental Pod, an ultrasonic cleaner for removable appliances such as night guards, retainers, aligners and dentures: £69.99 for the pod and £7.99 for a pack of 30 cleaning tablets, at the practice. We are an official Zima Dental reseller.

Consultations for whitening, composite bonding, veneers, smile design, Invisalign and facial aesthetics are free, and so is the initial implant consultation. The free implant consultation does not include the CBCT scan and implant planning, which is £149 when a new scan is needed. We take a deposit when you book, under our Failure to Attend policy, and it is refunded when you attend; we confirm the amount when you book. A free consultation is an initial consultation, not a full dental examination. If you need or want a full examination, it is charged at our published private fee: £85 for new patients and £55 for existing patients, x-rays included. NHS examinations are free for NHS patients of the practice.
