What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw to act as an artificial tooth root, with a crown fitted on top. It's a fixed, long-term way to replace a missing tooth without relying on the teeth either side.

Am I suitable for implants?

Most adults with good general and gum health can be considered, but suitability depends on your jawbone, your gums and your medical history - which is exactly what the consultation assesses. Your dentist will give you an honest answer either way, and discuss alternatives such as bridges or dentures if implants aren't right for you.

Who would carry out my implant treatment?

Implant consultations are led by Dr. Vikas Sharda (GDC 209880), who holds postgraduate certificate and diploma qualifications in implant dentistry. You can meet the whole team on our staff page.

How much do dental implants cost?

It genuinely depends on your case - how many teeth, whether bone grafting is needed, and the type of restoration - so we don't quote a one-size figure. Your consultation ends with a written treatment plan and an exact price before anything goes ahead.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes - 0% finance is available on treatment from £250 up to £5,000, spread over 2 to 12 months. Treatment plans over £5,000 can be part-financed, with the remainder paid in full.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The placement is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients describe the recovery as more manageable than they expected. Your dentist will talk you through what to expect at your consultation, honestly and specific to your case.

Is there parking at the practice?

Yes - the Princes Exchange Car Park is in our own building, accessed from Riego Street at the rear (9/2 Riego Street, EH3 9BL). Parking is payable: £3 for 1 hour, or £5 for up to 3 hours. The car park opens at 9:30am, so if you are driving to an earlier appointment we suggest street parking nearby. Blue Badge holders can park free on Fountainbridge, and we are a short walk from Haymarket Station.

A full assessment. Your dentist examines your mouth, gums and jaw — with x-rays or scans where needed — to see whether implants are right for you.

An honest conversation. If implants aren't your best option, you'll be told so, and alternatives like bridges or dentures explained plainly.

A written plan and exact price. Nothing goes ahead until you have both — and 0% finance can spread the cost from £250 up to £5,000, with larger plans part-financeable.
