Invisalign in Edinburgh
City Dental Care is a certified Invisalign provider on Earl Grey Street, in the centre of Edinburgh. Clear, removable aligners straighten teeth discreetly — no metal, no wires — and because we're open until 8pm Monday to Thursday, and until 5pm on Friday, check-ups fit around work rather than the other way round. We offer Invisalign to adults, teenagers and children; it is always private, at any age. Where a case needs something aligners can't do, we'll say so and advise on the right route - see how aligners and fixed braces compare.

See your smile straightened — from a selfie
SmileView is Invisalign's own preview tool: take a smiling photo on your phone and it shows a simulation of how your teeth could look after aligner treatment.
Please treat it as a rough sketch, not a result. SmileView works from a single photo, so it cannot see your bite, your roots or your gums, and it does not know what your teeth can safely do. The realistic picture comes from an Invisalign consultation, where your dentist checks what is achievable. If you decide to go ahead with Invisalign, we take a digital 3D scan of your teeth at no extra cost to build your plan. You see a proper treatment simulation and a written plan before you commit to treatment.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners, each moving your teeth a small step towards their planned position. The aligners are hard to spot in everyday life, and because they come out for eating and brushing, normal food and normal hygiene carry on throughout treatment.
How Does Invisalign Work at City Dental Care?
Four steps, and you know the full cost in writing before the first aligner is made.
Consultation
We look at your teeth, listen to what you want to change, and tell you honestly whether aligners suit your case — some cases are better treated another way, and we'll say so. The consultation is free. We take a deposit when you book, under our Failure to Attend policy, and it is refunded when you attend; we confirm the amount when you book. A free consultation is an initial consultation, not a full dental examination. If you need or want a full examination, it is charged at our published private fee: £85 for new patients and £55 for existing patients, x-rays included. NHS examinations are free for NHS patients of the practice.
Digital Scan and Plan
If you decide to go ahead with Invisalign, we take a digital 3D scan of your teeth at no extra cost to build your plan. Your clinician uses it to show how your teeth are expected to move, and you see the plan and the price before you commit to treatment.
Wear the Aligners
Aligners are worn for around 20 to 22 hours a day, coming out for meals and brushing, with a fresh set roughly every 1 to 2 weeks.
Check-Ups and Retainers
We monitor progress at short review visits — evenings available — and when treatment finishes, retainers help keep your teeth where the aligners moved them. Retainers are part of every plan, not an extra to think about later.
We also sell the Zima Dental Pod, an ultrasonic cleaner for removable appliances — aligners, retainers, night guards and dentures. We are an official Zima Dental reseller: the pod is £69.99 and £7.99 for a pack of 30 cleaning tablets, bought at the practice, and it is an option rather than part of your treatment.
Why Patients Choose Aligners
Discreet
The aligners are clear and close-fitting, so most people won't notice you're wearing them.
Comfortable
Smooth plastic instead of brackets and wires — most patients find aligners noticeably more comfortable than fixed braces.
Removable
Eat what you like and brush and floss as normal — the aligners come out when you need them to.
How Long Does Invisalign Take? Typically 6 to 18 Months
Treatment time depends on your case — simple corrections sit at the shorter end, complex ones take longer. Your written plan gives the estimate for yours.
Invisalign Lite covers milder cases with fewer aligners, so it usually finishes sooner than full treatment.
Why Have Invisalign at City Dental Care?
A Certified Invisalign Provider
Every Invisalign case is planned digitally by one of our certified providers, and you can hear our clinicians explain how aligners work, in their own words, in the videos further down this page. Three of our dentists are Invisalign providers, and each has their GDC number on our team page.
Evenings Until 8pm
Aligner reviews are short, frequent visits — ours fit after work, Monday to Thursday (until 5pm on Friday), in the city centre a short walk from Haymarket Station.
The Cost in Writing, First
A written, itemised plan before treatment starts — the price you see is the price you pay, with 0% finance available over 6, 9, 10, 11 or 12 months.
Finish the Job Under One Roof
Whitening and bonding after alignment, when they're wanted, planned by the same team.
Straightening Before Whitening, Bonding or Veneers
Whitening looks better on straight teeth
Overlapping teeth whiten unevenly; aligned teeth whiten as one surface.
Bonding needs less resin
Closing a gap or evening an edge on aligned teeth is a small job; disguising crowding with bonding is a big one, and it doesn't last as well.
Veneers can often be avoided
Many 'veneer' cases are really alignment cases. Straightening first keeps your own enamel, which veneers usually remove - and that step is permanent.
Easier to clean
Straight teeth have fewer traps for plaque - which matters for your gums long after the cosmetic reason has faded.
What Does Invisalign Cost in Edinburgh?
Our prices are published, not quoted on the day: Invisalign Lite (single arch) from £1,900 and Invisalign Full (dual arch) from £3,499. Spread over 12 months on 0% finance, Lite works out at around £158 a month and Full at around £292 a month. The Invisalign cost guide explains what's included and how the finance works, and the full price list covers everything else.
Is Invisalign Right for You?
Aligners suit many crowding, spacing and alignment problems, but not every case — and the honest answer comes from seeing your teeth in person, not from a webpage. Book a consultation, which is free, and we'll look at your teeth, show you what treatment would involve, and give you the cost in writing. We take a deposit when you book, under our Failure to Attend policy, and it is refunded when you attend; we confirm the amount when you book. If a different treatment would serve you better, we'll tell you that instead. You can see real, consented results from our clinicians in the smile gallery.
Common reasons people come to us
- Crowded or overlapping front teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that have moved since braces as a teenager (relapse)
- Wanting straighter teeth before bonding, veneers or whitening
- A bite that wears teeth unevenly or makes cleaning difficult
Clear aligners, invisible braces, teeth straightening - the same thing?
People search for this treatment in different words. Clear aligners, invisible braces and teeth straightening usually mean the same thing: a series of removable, clear plastic trays, made to your teeth, that move them a little at a time.
Invisalign is a brand of clear aligner, and it is the one we use at City Dental Care. It is always a private treatment here, from £1,900 for a single arch.
Clear braces and ceramic braces are something different: fixed brackets and wires, tooth-coloured so they show less. We do not fit braces of any kind. If your assessment shows fixed braces would get a better result, we will tell you and point you to an orthodontist rather than fit aligners that won't get there.
Aligners vs Fixed Braces — Honestly
Clear aligners (Invisalign):
Removable, discreet, planned digitally so you see the expected result before you start. Suits most mild-to-moderate crowding, spacing and alignment problems. Worn around 20-22 hours a day; results depend on wearing them.
Fixed braces:
Brackets and wires bonded to the teeth. Still the right tool for some complex movements - large rotations, significant bite corrections - and they don't rely on the patient remembering to wear them.
Which is right for you:
The assessment decides, not the marketing. If your teeth need fixed braces or care from an orthodontist, we'll tell you and point you to the right route rather than fit aligners that won't get the result.
